ALICE IN CHAINS Guitarist Says MICHAEL JACKSON's Body Of Work 'Speaks For Itself'

The Pulse of Radio reports: The members of ALICE IN CHAINS know something about loss, with the band losing singer Layne Staley to an overdose in 2002. With questions about drugs surrounding the death of Michael Jackson as his memorial takes place in Los Angeles on Tuesday (July 7),ALICE guitarist Jerry Cantrell told The Pulse of Radio that Jackson's accomplishments will still stand tall. "You know, it's kind of shocking," he said. "I mean, a performer and a songwriter and just an icon of that stature — the dude was a star from five to 50. He had a lot of personal problems, I don't know what was real or what wasn't, but the body of work speaks for itself, and the level that he maintained for that many years is pretty wild."

Jackson's memorial will take place on Tuesday at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, with tens of thousands of fans converging on the area and nonstop coverage expected on all the news channels.

ALICE IN CHAINS will release its first album in 14 years, called "Black Gives Way To Blue", on September 29.

The band has posted a brand new song called "A Looking In View" and accompanying video online at their official web site, AliceInChains.com.

ALICE IN CHAINS has also announced its first round of North American tour dates in support of the record, beginning on September 4 in Washington D.C. That run will be preceded by a show with KID ROCK in Detroit on July 18 and an appearance at California's new Epicenter festival on August 22.
